ABSTRACT
This study was undertaken to assess the information and communication technology competencies possessed by office technology and management lecturers in tertiary institutions in Anambra and Enugu states. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. Four research questions guided the study while four hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The population for the study consisted of 113 office technology and management lecturers. The entire population was studied. A validated questionnaire containing 50 items was used for data collection. The arithmetic mean and standard deviation were used to analyze data in respect of the research questions while the z-test and ANOVA were used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. It was found that respondents possessed only computer operation competencies to a high extent and networking, telecommunication and media competencies to a low extent. There was no significant difference in the mean ratings of the respondents in their possessed information and communication technology competencies based on gender, teaching experience, educational qualification and institution type. It was concluded, based on the findings of the study, that the respondents can hardly produce graduates with information and communication technology competencies. The implication of this study is that the respondents need re-training to acquire relevant information and communication technology competencies to be able to inculcate them in their students. Consequently, it was recommended, among other things, that office technology and management lecturers should be sponsored for adequate training and that government should provide adequate ICT facilities and resources for tertiary institutions office technology and management programs.
