INTRODUCTION
The current greatest difficulty is creating a sustainable economy for a nation that can serve as a model for other economies worldwide. Most governments focus their efforts on achieving and sustaining this sustainable growth and development in order to meet this challenge and guarantee a higher standard of living for their citizens. Not only is risk absorption, allocation, and transfer important to the insurance industry, but so is the mobilization of cash for the financial markets to employ as an incentive for investment and growth. Despite the clear economic benefits that insurance companies provide, insurance penetration in African nations is still quite low. Not only does this prevent the continent from maximizing the benefits of insurance activities to individuals and businesses, it also reduces these emerging nations’ capacity to mobilize funds from the insurance industry for use by financial markets. Between 1997 and 2004, there was an 82% increase in global insurance premiums, with emerging markets accounting for 57% of the rise as opposed to developed nations’ 27%. (Arena, 2008). This demonstrates the expanding significance of the insurance sector as a source of wealth accumulation, particularly in emerging nations. As a result, academic academics’ attention is now focused on examining how insurance affects economic growth. Authors include Ward and Zurbruegg (2000), Webb et al. (2002), Liedtke (2007), and Arena (2008).
